Sealaska land transfer to go forward

A land conveyance that would transfer control of public land near Redoubt Lake to the Sealaska Corporation is scheduled to take a step forward this summer.

Survey crews with the Bureau of Land Management are scheduled to visit the Redoubt area this summer with an eye toward creating a formal plat that would pave the way for 11 acres to be transferred to Sealaska, said Tom Jennings, a spokesman for BLM's Alaska office in Anchorage.

The prospect of transferring Redoubt Falls, where dozens of Sitkans fish for sockeye each summer, to private hands has raised strong concerns among some locals.

Danish commandos 'monitoring hippies' on Arctic offshore rig #artcticloons

The environmental non-governmental group  Greenpeace  has published  statements and  video  showing its activists aboard two ships that are attempting to "interfere" with oil exploration going on in the Davis Strait, 100 miles west of Greenland. This business has in turn prompted the Kingdom of Denmark to launch two ships and a few helicopters to monitor the Greenpeace interference.
