USCG: KODIAK, Alaska — The Coast Guard invites members of the media to view a live webcast of the Leadership for the Arctic academic conference being held at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., Thursday and Friday.
The Leadership for the Arctic conference will look at U.S. interests in the region and discuss what type of maritime safety, environmental protection and law enforcement presence should be operating in the Arctic.
Among those examining the issues will be Ambassador David Balton, from the Bureau of Oceans, Environment and Science Department of State; Peter E. Slaiby, vice president, Shell Alaska, Exploration and Appraisal; Dr. Jane Lubchenco, administrator, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and Lisa Speer, International Oceans program director, Natural Resources Defense Council. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Bob Papp will deliver the closing remarks.
