KODIAK, Alaska — Date: April 25, 2012 - Coast Guard Base Kodiak was officially established Wednesday during a ceremony at the Billiken Theater on the base.
Capt. Mark Carmel, deputy director of operational logistics office in Norfolk, Va., presided over the ceremony in which Capt. Karl Moore became the first commanding officer of Coast Guard Base Kodiak.

The units listed below have been integrated under one chain of leadership, lead by Moore, to streamline internal services and eliminate redundancies.
- Base Support Unit Kodiak
- Personnel Services and Support Unit Kodiak
- Health, Safety and Work-Life Kodiak
- Electronics Systems Support Unit Juneau and their Kodiak detachment
Kodiak is one of 13 bases newly established under this reorganization nationwide. The combining of these units does not constitute the loss or addition of any personnel to or from Kodiak.
